Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held phone talks with Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati. They discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, with a particular emphasis on the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading to the territory of Lebanon.
"The discussion addressed the evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly focusing on events in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon. The Russian side reiterated its steadfast commitment to supporting the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the Lebanese Republic. Furthermore, it emphasized the imperative of preventing the spread of armed escalation from the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to Lebanese territory," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry in a released statement.
Bogdanov and Mikati explored the ongoing development of the traditionally amicable Russian-Lebanese relations, emphasizing the importance of sustained political dialogue. Additionally, the Russian deputy foreign minister engaged in discussions on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict with Suleiman Frangier, chairman of Lebanon's Al-Marada party. The ministry noted that they underscored the imperative of preventing the spread of armed escalation to Lebanese territory, recognizing the potential devastating consequences for the country and the broader region.
