Borisov: Russia sees Iraq as a key partner in the Middle East

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Mohammad Hussein held a working meeting at the Russian government house to discuss topical issues of bilateral cooperation, the office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation told reporters.


"Topical issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting, including projects in energy, industry, trade, transport, agriculture and others. Borisov confirmed that Iraq is still considered by Russia as one of the key partners in the Middle East region", the report says.


At the same time, Borisov noted the reduction of trade turnover between Russia and Iraq. "Noting a certain decrease in the level of trade turnover between Russia and Iraq, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister urged his Iraqi colleagues to make every effort to increase mutual supplies of a wide range of goods, as well as to give a new impetus to promising projects of bilateral cooperation in various areas,"  the office of Deputy Prime Minister of Russia said.


Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov is co-chairman of the Russian-Iraq Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation on the Russian side, and the Iraqi part is headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Mohammad Hussein. The next meeting of the Inter-Iraq Commission is scheduled for early next year, around February and March.
