Russia pays great attention to stepping up cooperation with Iraq, including in the sphere of military-technical cooperation. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov on Thursday following talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and meetings with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi and President Barham Saleh.

"We attach great importance to the development of the entire complex of bilateral ties. We pay the most attention to issues related to the reconstruction of the Iraqi economy and intensification of cooperation in such priority areas as energy, industrial cooperation, transport, agriculture and military-technical cooperation," Borisov said.

Borisov also noted that Russia is interested in resolving the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, as well as fully eradicating the threat from terrorist groups.

"Iraq is one of Russia's key partners in the Middle East region. We are interested in the soonest settlement of conflict situations in Iraq and neighboring Syria, the complete eradication of the terrorist threat represented by ISIS (the former name of the IS terrorist group banned in Russia - TASS) and other groups," he said.

Borisov stressed that Russia stands for ensuring the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Iraqi state.
