BRICS Summit's Plenary Session Kicks Off

The open part of the plenary session involving the leaders of BRICS member countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China,  South Africa – has commenced on the second day of the ongoing BRICS summit.

 

The session's agenda, as informed by the organizers, encompasses discussions on advancing and strengthening progressive multilateralism worldwide, initiating substantial reforms within global governance and international institutions. Additionally, leaders will deliberate on harnessing BRICS' potential to fortify an all-inclusive global economy, deepening beneficial partnerships between BRICS and Africa, and cultivating an environment of peace and development.

 

During the session, the BRICS leaders will present their perspectives on the aforementioned topics, with Russian President Vladimir Putin addressing via video link. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be present within the session room. The deliberations are expected to culminate in a definitive resolution concerning the issue of BRICS' expansion.

 

Among the session's proceedings, President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Rousseff will deliver a report, while Busisiwe Mabuza, the Chairperson of the South African Business Council, will present the BRICS Business Forum's findings. Additionally, insights from the BRICS Women's Business Alliance will be shared.

 

The leaders will also review the contents of the summit's pivotal document, the Johannesburg Declaration. Subsequent to the plenary session, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Summit's chairperson, will conduct a press conference.
