BSF ships will call at Egyptian port on December 3 for joint exercises

A detachment of ships of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) will take part in the Russian-Egyptian naval exercises "Bridge of Friendship - 2021," for which the Russian ships will call at the port of Alexandria on December 3, the BSF press service said on Thursday.


"A detachment of ships of the Black Sea Fleet is completing its transition to the port of Alexandria in the Arab Republic of Egypt to participate in the joint Russian-Egyptian naval exercise "Bridge of Friendship - 2021". The official call of ships of the fleet at the port of Egypt is scheduled for December 3," the fleet reported.


It is specified that the group of ships of the Russian Navy includes the frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" with a deck helicopter on board, patrol ship "Dmitry Rogachev" and rescue tug SB-742. The Russian delegation, led by Rear Admiral Viktor Kochemazov, commander of the Novorossiysk Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet, has already arrived in Alexandria to complete the preparatory phase of the exercise.


"During the event, which is being held in the eastern Mediterranean Sea in the area of the Gulf of Alexandria, Russian and Egyptian warships will act under the direction of the combined headquarters of the exercise according to a single plan and will perform tasks to repel attacks on maritime targets, inspect suspicious vessels, organize anti-aircraft defense and resupply at sea from a helicopter. The purpose of the exercise, which will take place from December 3 to 10, is preparation and planning of joint actions for protection of limited sea areas from various threats, carrying out search and rescue operations and inspection of suspicious ships," the fleet added.


It is added that the Russian-Egyptian exercise "Bridge of Friendship" has been held since 2015. In 2020, they were held in the Black Sea with the entry of the participating ships in the port of Novorossiysk.
