Burkina Faso is aiming to establish a strategic partnership with Russia in military, economic, and cultural sectors, according to the country’s Prime Minister, Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla, at the opening of the “Economic Days of Burkina Faso” forum.
“We want to form a strategic military, economic, and cultural partnership with Russia,” the prime minister said.
He emphasized the growing trust between the two nations, stating, “We have not only sent an ambassador to Russia, but Russia has also opened an embassy in Ouagadougou. This is proof of the trust that the Russians have in the current authorities of Burkina Faso, and the trust that our government has in Russia.”
Strengthening Military Ties
Aristide Tapsoba, Burkina Faso’s ambassador to Russia, highlighted the strengthening of military relations between the two countries.
“Our leadership is continually working to enhance bilateral cooperation. Our ties are developing very quickly,” the diplomat said. “Military cooperation is deepening, with high-level visits taking place. In just six months, more than five official delegations from Burkina Faso have visited Russia.”
Tapsoba also mentioned the active role of Burkina Faso’s president in the opening ceremony of Russia's embassy in Ouagadougou. “We are witnessing an increase in inter-parliamentary cooperation and a rise in the number of our students studying in Russian universities. A new momentum is driving our cultural connections, and we support each other’s candidacies on the international stage,” he added.
Business Opportunities
Tapsoba further noted that business interactions are growing between the two countries. “Our market is open to Russian businesses, and relations are progressing. The ‘Economic Days of Burkina Faso’ serve as a great example of cooperation and a pathway toward practical engagement,” the ambassador concluded.
