The EgyptAir flight from Cairo to Moscow, which sounded an alarm, made a safe landing at the airport of departure, the aviation services told TASS on Wednesday.
"The passenger Airbus A220 from Cairo to Moscow safely returned to the airport of departure. The reason for giving an alarm is being established," the agency's interlocutor said.
The plane sounded an alarm and turned around over the Mediterranean Sea about half an hour after departure. Overall, the plane spent about an hour in the air. Initially, it was on the way to Domodedovo airport.
It was later learned that the plane returned to the departure airport due to a threatening message on one of the seats. "Flight MS 729 returned [to Cairo] due to a threatening message from an unknown person on one of the plane's seats," the company said in a statement. - "The plane was returned to the point of departure after 22 minutes, the board landed safely at Cairo airport, the necessary measures are being taken."
As one of the pilots explained to TASS, such incidents happen on flights several times a year. As a rule, he noted, such messages turn out to be someone's silly joke. However, according to the rules of airlines, the plane is obliged to land in any case. In the case of flight MS 729, he said, security rules would thoroughly check the plane, inspect the passengers and their luggage, and they would be given another plane in any case.
