During the XI Moscow Conference on International Security, Joseph Beti Assomo, the Minister-Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense of Cameroon, announced Cameroon's intent to enhance military-technical collaboration with Russia in the realm of counterterrorism efforts.
"Our collaboration with Russia is robust, intensive, sincere, and mutually beneficial. Nonetheless, we aspire to cultivate a more ambitious partnership that can substantially fortify the sovereignty of our respective nations," he stated.
The politician underlined that the defense and security cooperation between the two countries are strategically focused on combating terrorism. "By extending such support, Russia is making a significant contribution to enhancing security," he added.
He highlighted that the African continent is currently standing at a critical juncture, with its extensive resources in higher demand than ever. "In the present day, our continent is grappling with an unprecedented surge of terrorism affecting numerous nations in the Sahel region - stretching from the Horn of Africa to the Gulf of Guinea. This situation is fueling divisions in our societies and is a primary factor for the youth migration from our continent, as well as youth protests," the minister remarked.
He expressed optimism that the collaborative endeavors in bolstering security across the African continent through partnership with Russia will serve as an inspiration to other nations. "Our states are not proponents of war and harbor no aggressive intentions towards any entity. Our priority lies in constructing modern and effective military systems, alongside robust political and diplomatic leadership and credibility, to confront the challenges and difficulties. This is where the genuine and meaningful partnerships we have with the Russian Federation play a crucial role," he concluded.
