The car of the Russian embassy in Afghanistan exploded in an improvised explosive device in Kabul on Tuesday, giving the employees a slight contusion. This was stated in a distributed comment by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

"On the road near the Russian Embassy complex in Kabul, an improvised explosive device was detonated," the diplomat said. According to her, the employees of the Russian Foreign Ministry got a slight contusion as a result of the explosion.

According to the preliminary assessment, a pickup truck of the Afghan National Security Forces with soldiers was supposed to be the target of the terrorist attack, as they drove in front of a diplomatic car. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry does not rule out that the terrorist attack was directed against Russian citizens.

Zakharova, therefore, demanded that the Afghan side "thoroughly investigate the incident and take comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of the personnel of Russian foreign institutions in Afghanistan".
"The Russian embassy in Kabul is implementing additional measures aimed at improving the security of its personnel and facilities," the diplomat added.
