Cavusoglu believes no grain deal without Turkey

11 April 2023

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu believes the grain deal would not have been realized without Turkey. He expressed this opinion on Monday during a speech in Ankara's Kecioren district.

"Without Turkey, there would have been no grain deal. And if there had been, the deal would not have been extended. In all the agreements, including the exchange of prisoners (between Russia and Ukraine - TASS), there is a mediating role of Turkey. Our country has made a name for itself in mediation," T24 quoted the minister as saying.

Cavusoglu also noted that Turkey "has become a world power over the past 20 years," and must become even stronger in a "very changing world," which has many challenges. The minister said this could be achieved by maintaining stability, which could be ensured if current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan "stayed in power for another five years." The remark was made by Cavusoglu in light of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14.
