Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Thursday that Ankara will be forced to follow sanctions against Russia if they are approved by the United Nations.
"Turkey follows international law, we will pursue a balanced policy. If the UN approves sanctions against Russia, Turkey will be forced to follow them," he said in an interview with NTV.
Cavusoglu also spoke in favor of reforming the UN. "The UN needs to be reformed," the Turkish minister said. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about the need to reform the UN.
According to him, Turkey believes that the consequences of the situation in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed against Russia will be felt for a long time.
Cavusoglu also said that Turkey sees signs of a new cold war because of the situation in Ukraine. "We assume that the consequences from the war between Ukraine and Russia and the sanctions imposed will be felt for a long time. It [the recovery process] will take some time. We see signs of a new cold war, but we will continue to pursue a principled foreign policy," he stressed.
