Central Asia's largest mosque to open in Tajikistan

11 February 2020

The large Central Cathedral mosque in Dushanbe, which is to become the largest Muslim temple in Central Asia, will open its doors next spring, Chairman of the Committee on architecture and construction of Tajikistan Jamshed Ahmadzoda said.

The mosque was originally scheduled to open in October last year, when the Amir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, planned to visit the Republic. But his visit was postponed until March, when the opening ceremony of the temple will take place.

The mosque construction project was developed by specialists from Tajikistan and Qatar. The main building of the mosque will be decorated with 4 75-meter-high minarets, a 47-meter-high main dome, and 20 large and small domes.

The capacity of the mosque is 120 thousand people.

The project funded by the Qatari government is estimated at almost $ 100 million.
