Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has invited Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to visit his country. This was reported on Thursday by the official newspaper "Neytralny Turkmenistan" following Berdimuhamedov's working visit to the Islamic republic.
According to the newspaper, Berdimuhamedov and Khamenei discussed a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation during the meeting, noting its strategic level.
The sides named trade and economic sphere as one of the priority areas of bilateral partnership, with the potential to intensify contacts. In particular, the newspaper writes, there are broad prospects for cooperation in such strategic sectors as transport, oil, gas and energy. Also, the interlocutors expressed willingness to develop their cooperation in education, science and culture, health, environment, as well as to strengthen ties between the regions of the two countries.
Berdimuhamedov visited Iran on May 30-31. During his visit, he also held talks with President Ebrahim Raisi.
