Chairman of Russian Muftis Council met with Ambassador of Afghanistan to Russia

19 August 2019

Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation  Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin met with the Plenipotentiary representative of Afghanistan in Russia Mohammad Latif Bahand.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the close historical ties between the Muslims of the two countries. The peak of these ties came at the end of XIX - beginning of XX century when the Tatar educators have actively corresponded with their Afghan counterparts and visited them as well (for example, there is a well-known fact of the meeting of Musa Bigiev and Rizaetdin  Fahretdin with Jamaluddin al-Afghani). One of the ways for the Hajj was through Afghanistan. Also, Afghan scholars taught at Bukhara madrassah, where the Muslims of Russia were educated.

Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin thanked the Ambassador extraordinary for the active participation of the Afghan side in the HalalExpo exhibitions, the Moscow international competition of the Quran Hafiz, in the charity project "Tent of Ramadan".

Mohammad Latif Bahand invited the head of the Russian Muftis Council to the events dedicated to the centenary of the independence of Afghanistan and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Ravil Gainutdin, in his turn, noted that the Ambassador of Afghanistan would be a welcome guest at the anniversary events related to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Spiritual administration of Muslims of Russia.
