Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin talked about parliamentarians role to fight terrorism

01 July 2019

The main threat to peace and security is terrorism and the fight against it requires parliamentarians to bring together without double standards and hidden agendas, said Viacheslav Volodin, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, today during his speech at the 2nd International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”.

"The main threat to peace and security is terrorism. Bloody terrorist attacks in various parts of the world are still continuing. No country in the world is safe from that. We can fight it only together.  Without double standards and hidden agendas, by depriving terrorists of ideology and financial support", he stressed.

Volodin also noted that parliamentarians should contribute to a peaceful, political and diplomatic resolution of conflicts, including the most difficult regions as the Middle East and North Africa.

"We have to use our parliamentary resources to rebuild - politically, socio-economically -  states affected by extremists and terrorists, in particular, Syria", the speaker said.

This year, the Forum, which is held upon the initiative of the State Duma, is attended by representatives of 132 states — about 800 parliamentarians and experts.
