13 February 2020

During the meeting with the leader of  "A Just Russia" party Sergey Mironov, the Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation Ravil Gainutdin touched upon the issue of amendments to the Constitution being discussed in Russian society and, in particular, the proposal to fix the place of religion in the state in the basic law of the country.

Religious leader stressed that as a believer and as a Mufti, he is grateful to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill for the initiative for inclusion in the text of the Constitution the word "God", but in matters of fundamental legal acts of the state should be based primarily on the principle of "do no harm".

Each religious tradition, according to Gainutdin, puts its own meaning in the concept under discussion.

"We cannot allow a situation where one or another wording would become a stumbling block between believers of different traditions. Any changes to the fundamental legislative act of the country should be aimed at uniting, not separating, the citizens of Russia, and therefore should be weighed and considered, " the Mufti was quoted as saying.
