Chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia proposed to fix the role of religion in the Constitution

Chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Russian Muslims mufti Albir Krganov suggested recognizing the contribution of traditional religions to "historical, patriotic and moral foundation of Russia" in the preamble of the Constitution.


This proposal was made by a religious figure during a round table at Russia Today.


"We proposed to consider the possibility of fixing (in the preamble of the Constitution - ed.) the contribution of traditional religions to the historical, patriotic and moral foundation of Russia," he said, in particular.


Earlier, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus' suggested adding a reference to God to the preamble of the Constitution, explaining that "the majority of Russians believe in the existence of God" and stressing that he speaks not only about the Orthodox, but also about Muslims and representatives of other faiths.
