During a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, Iranian Chief of General Staff Mohammad Hossein Bagheri refuted claims of Iranian troop and equipment buildup along the shared border with Azerbaijan, as reported by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry's press service.
"Lieutenant General Bagheri stressed that the false information being spread by certain parties with the aim of undermining the friendly and neighborly relations between the two countries, which alleges that Iran is amassing troops and military equipment along the Azerbaijani border and conducting various exercises, is entirely baseless," the press service reported.
According to the defense ministry, the sides shared their perspectives on the regional situation and explored the potential for military cooperation between their respective countries.
