10 April

Close cooperation between the security forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and preventing conflicts across the region, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev told an interview with the magazine Allies. CSTO.

He emphasized that deepening and expanding collaboration between the CIS and CSTO security structures is proving to be an effective mechanism for managing regional tensions and strengthening security.

Regular joint drills involving armed forces, emergency services, and law enforcement from member states demonstrate their collective readiness to confront both global and regional threats, Lebedev noted.

He added that better coordination between defense and other relevant agencies is helping raise cooperation to a new level, enhancing the development of joint systems aimed at safeguarding the interests of participating countries.

Wide-Ranging Agenda

Lebedev also highlighted that such joint activities offer a platform to assess a broad set of issues—from regional and global security to the impact of external influences on domestic politics within CIS and CSTO nations. These efforts also address pressing challenges like drug trafficking, terrorism, and illegal migration.

"Discussing these topics in a focused manner brings national perspectives closer together, helping shape unified positions on key international issues based on a shared understanding of current risks and threats," he concluded.
