CIS countries signed agreement on free trade in services

Heads of governments of CIS member states have signed an agreement providing for free trade in services and investment activities. Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, said this following the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Governments in Sochi.


"We have signed several important documents aimed at further development of multilateral cooperation within the CIS. The most important is the agreement on free trade in services, establishment, activities and investments," he said. According to him, work on the draft document was conducted "for about 10 years". According to Zhaparov, the agreement will help ensure "sustainable development of the CIS free trade zone in services and goods" and create favorable conditions for further growth of the economies of the CIS member states.


"Another no less important agreement that we signed today is the agreement on cooperation of CIS member states in the exchange of radiation situation monitoring data. The agreement was elaborated in order to effectively solve the tasks of management in the field of civil defense, protection of population and territories from emergencies, timely informing the population about the state of radiation safety," he explained.


In addition, during the meeting in Sochi, a number of decisions related to industrial cooperation, cultural and humanitarian sector were adopted. "[We] approved the regulation on the CIS Spartakiads among children with disabilities. Annual holding of the Spartakiad will expand opportunities for the CIS member states to rehabilitate children with disabilities through physical education and sports," said the head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers.


The participants of the meeting defined the youth capitals of the CIS for the next three years. In 2024 the status will be given to the city of Tashkent, in 2025 - to the city of Gabala and in 2026 - to the city of Kapan.


According to Zhaparov, the next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Governments will be held on October 27, 2023, in Bishkek. And on October 12-13 it is planned to hold a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of CIS Heads of State in Kyrgyzstan.
