The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will conduct anti-terrorism exercises in Tashkent on September 4-5, as reported by the National News Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA).
The exercises, organized by Uzbekistan’s State Security Service with coordination from the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center, aim to enhance the capabilities of relevant bodies in carrying out joint operations to detect and neutralize terrorist threats against critical infrastructure and areas with large gatherings of people.
In conjunction with these exercises, Tashkent will also host a scientific and practical conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure and a CIS conference on combating terrorism and extremism. Delegations from member states, as well as representatives from international, educational, and research organizations focused on counterterrorism and extremism, are expected to attend. Notably, participants will include representatives from the United Nations, Interpol, the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
The conference will serve as a platform for sharing best practices and discussing strategies to enhance international cooperation, fostering a unified approach to addressing new security challenges and threats.
