An expert group consisting of representatives from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has reached a consensus on the drafts of the agreement and charter for the establishment of the International Organization for the Russian Language. The CIS Executive Committee's press service reported this development.
"During the meeting, the experts reviewed proposals received from several states and, after comprehensive discussions, reached an agreement on the drafts of the treaty and charter for the International Organization for the Russian Language. The remaining issues will be addressed in a subsequent meeting of the expert group in the near future," the report reads.
The meeting, held at the CIS headquarters on July 13-14, was attended by representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
The initial meeting of the expert group on developing the founding documents of the International Organization for Support and Promotion of the Russian Language took place on March 15.
At the summit in Astana held in October 2022, the leaders of CIS member countries endorsed the initiative proposed by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish an organization aimed at supporting and promoting the Russian language.
The concept of the organization was approved, and the CIS Executive Committee solicited proposals for its development. Currently, Russia and Kazakhstan have received drafts of the agreement and charter for the organization, while Armenia has submitted proposals for the regulation of the organization's functional activities. These documents and proposals were discussed during the expert group's meeting.
