CIS IPA Meeting in Bishkek to Focus on Significance of Russian Language in CIS

Representatives of the parliaments of CIS countries will discuss the role of the Russian language in the Commonwealth, healthcare issues, and other topics at the 56th meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) in Bishkek.

 

"The agenda of the Bishkek session of the CIS IPA includes various issues related to the activities of the Commonwealth, including the role of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication," stated a representative of the Kyrgyz Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council) apparatus, according to TASS.

 

Additionally, the meeting of heads of legislative bodies of CIS countries will address topics such as citizens' health insurance, the potential impact of mining activities on the health of populations in adjacent areas, the production of environmentally friendly products, and the prevention of law violations in the field of communication technologies.

 

The agenda also includes discussions on responsibility for terrorism financing and organizational aspects. Prior to the IPA meeting, representatives of CIS country parliaments participated in various events, including a solemn meeting commemorating the 85th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's legislative body and an international conference honoring the 95th anniversary of Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov (1928-2008).

 

The Russian delegation, led by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, emphasized the ongoing significance of independent states' interaction in expanding and deepening multilateral economic, humanitarian, and cultural cooperation. Matviyenko highlighted the upcoming transition of the CIS chairmanship from Kyrgyzstan to Russia in the coming year, expressing the intention to continue the initiatives and substantive aspects of Kyrgyzstan's leadership. She particularly noted the signing of an agreement in 2023 to establish an international organization for the Russian language, coinciding with the declaration of 2023 as the Year of the Russian Language in the CIS.
