Citizens of Kazakhstan who are in Russia will be able to vote at five polling stations during the upcoming March 19 special elections to the Majilis (lower house) of the parliament of the republic. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the country's embassy in Moscow.
"Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan who have reached 18 years of age will be able to take part in voting at the embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia, where polling station #265 will work," the message says.
In addition, Kazakhstanis would be able to vote at polling stations at the country's general consulates in St. Petersburg, Kazan, Astrakhan and Omsk. Polling stations in all five cities will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
Anyone visiting a polling station should have a passport or an ID card of a citizen of Kazakhstan. To be added to the voter list, voters must fill out a special form on the website.
On January 19, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree dissolving the Majilis of the seventh convocation and setting early elections of deputies of the lower chamber of the parliament for March 19. In addition, the head of state signed a decree on the early termination of powers of local representative bodies (maslikhats) of all levels. Elections of these deputies will also be held on March 19. The early elections to the Majilis will be held under a mixed electoral system - 70% of the deputies will be elected from party lists and 30% from single-member districts.
