Comment by Russian MFA on the terrorist act in Kabul

19 August 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation published a comment on the terrorist act committed on August 17 in the capital of Afghanistan Kabul by members of ISIS (outlawed in Russia  - ed.). As a result of the terrorist attack, 63 people were killed and more than 180 were injured.

"We  condemn the terrorists’ barbaric attack and condole with the families of those killed and hope that the injured recover as soon as possible.  The terrorist attack in Kabul was carried out at a time when the Afghan people had hope for peace and national accord after eighteen years of fratricidal war, as well as on the eve of the great national holiday − the 100th anniversary of Afghanistan's independence", -  reads the comment of the Ministry.

The statement also notes that Russia has repeatedly stated how at ease members of ISIS  feel themselves in Afghanistan, conducting more brazen and inhuman attacks on the peaceful way of life in the country. Official Moscow calls on Afghanistan’s authorities and the international coalition to take the necessary measures to ensure public safety in the country.
