COVID cases in Kazakhstan tripled in two weeks

The number of people infected with COVID in Kazakhstan over the past two weeks has increased 3.2 times compared to the previous 14-day period,  Health Minister of  Kazakhstan Azhar Giniyat said  at a government meeting on Tuesday.

 

"There is another rise in the cases of coronavirus in the republic. Over the past two weeks, the number of those infected has increased by 3.2 times. During the last 24 hours 2,021 people infected with coronavirus were registered," Giniyat said.

 

According to the epidemiological situation assessment matrix, Nur-Sultan is in the moderate risk zone (yellow), while the other regions are in the green zone, she said. Occupancy of infectious disease beds is 30%, intensive care beds - 7%. Due to the increase in the incidence of COVID in the regions, epidemiological control and preventive measures have been strengthened.


According to the minister, 80% of those infected  are unvaccinated residents or citizens who were vaccinated more than six months ago.

 

Revaccination of the population against coronavirus continues. More than 5 million people have been vaccinated, i.e. 68% of the target population (7.430.000 people were revaccinated). The country's population is more than 19.1 million people.
