Crimea's cooperation with the Syrian Arab Republic, which has returned to the Arab League, will enable the Russian region to develop trade and economic relations with other countries of the Middle East, which are currently interested in relations with Russia. Georgiy Muradov, the Permanent Representative of Crimea under the Russian President, expressed this opinion to TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
In May, the foreign ministers of the Arab League member states decided to restore Syria's membership in the regional organization. It was suspended in November 2011.
"Cooperation between Crimea and the Middle East, of course, will develop even more actively. This is also related to a basic agreement with the Syrian Arab Republic, which returned to the Arab League. It means that through Syria we have an opportunity to create a hub for the entire Middle East region. We will work on that," Muradov said.
According to him, today the countries of the Arab world show great interest in developing cooperation with Russia.
"The Arab countries are 'moving' toward Russia very actively. Our formula of sovereignty, state independence is extremely important and attractive to them. The colonial period, which the West actively used for the last two centuries, is over. <...> A multipolar polycentric world is forming, where states must have sovereignty, autonomy and a wide range, wide possibilities of developing their relations with other countries, which the West has been actively preventing. Now these obstacles will be removed," the interlocutor added.
