Crimea plans to start grain exports to Africa and the Middle East

01 August 2022

The possibility of sending grain for export is being considered in Crimea, with countries in Africa and the Middle East likely to act as buyers, the republic's permanent representative to the Russian president and deputy chairman of the Crimean Council of Ministers Georgiy Muradov said Monday in his Telegram channel.

"The threshed first 1 million tons of grain from early crops started accumulating export volumes of Crimean grain, which are needed primarily by Syria, countries in Africa and the Middle East," Muradov wrote.

He specified that a significant volume of grain was also threshed in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, the territories of which came out of Kiev's control back in the spring, and now the question of joining the Russian Federation is being raised there.

"Ship owners with vessels to transport grain are coming to the forefront of the grain trade. The problem has become urgent to such an extent that our partners are expressing their concerns frankly. For example, ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary, envoys and trade representatives from Africa and Latin America were invited to attend the regular meeting of the Club of heads of representations of the Russian Federation subjects, which was held in July. The topic of presentations and discussions on the sidelines was the possibility of grain supply and creation of transport and logistics schemes to ensure the safety of its delivery before the threat of famine, primarily in African countries," added Muradov.
