CSTO Foreign Ministers appeal to NATO

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has published an open letter from the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to the Foreign Ministers of the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on strengthening mutual trust and developing cooperation.

 

 


The document was signed at the summit of foreign Ministers of the CSTO countries held in Bishkek, in particular, notes the Organization’s commitment to "strengthening peace, global and regional security and stability based on generally accepted norms and principles of international law, readiness for broad international efforts to counter global challenges, including preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and countering international terrorism. ”

 

 


In addition, the CSTO foreign Ministers are calling for direct contacts between the secretaries-general of the two organizations, as well as a dialogue between the CSTO Permanent Council and the North Atlantic Council; create a mechanism for regular consultations between the secretariats of the CSTO and NATO on topical issues of regional and European security and promote the development of contacts between the CSTO and NATO in order to create mechanisms to prevent dangerous military incidents.

 

 


“We reaffirm the openness of the CSTO to a constructive dialogue with NATO and readiness for interaction in areas of mutual interest”, it is written in the message.
