CSTO foreign ministers reaffirm commitment to indivisibility of security

Participants of the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO Ministerial Council) adopted a document reaffirming the adherence to the principle of indivisibility of security. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Friday at a press conference following a meeting of the CSTO Ministerial Council.

"We adopted a document on international security in which the principle of the indivisibility of security and the need to ensure equal and indivisible security, when no country will strengthen its security at the expense of the security of any other country, was set forth for the first time within the CSTO," he said.

The Russian foreign minister reminded that the principle of indivisibility of security "was declared as a political obligation within the OSCE quite a long time ago, but Western colleagues categorically refused to fulfill it in practice and demanded legal guarantees of security exclusively within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance."

"We have confirmed today our commitment to this principle not only in the OSCE area, but also in the development of the entire international situation, especially since the relevance of asserting the indivisibility of security is now evident in the Indo-Pacific region," Lavrov said. - "As you know, our Chinese partners and strategic partners emphasize the need to apply the principle of the indivisibility of security on a global scale, in a global context."

Rich plan of consultations

"The second document that we signed is a very rich plan of consultations on the line of foreign policy departments and on the line of defense ministries," the minister continued. - "It involves coordination in the Euro-Atlantic, which is precisely the OSCE space, involves coordination of approaches to the agenda of the UN General Assembly and consultations on various regional crises and conflicts."

In addition, he said, a number of activities are devoted to "coordination of positions on international information security, on cybercrime, on the military line."

"Consultations will be held on military-technical cooperation, on the development of collective aviation forces and on other aspects, including the preparation of CSTO peacekeeping contingents for participation in peacekeeping operations, which are conducted through the UN," Lavrov stated. - "It is important to know that a separate item of the plan provides for regular consultations through the press services of the ministries of foreign affairs."
