CSTO Headquarters Describes Situation in Caucasus and Central Asian Regions as Tense

29 August

The situation in the Transcaucasus, where the West is seeking to expand its influence, as well as in the Central Asian region, remains complicated, Andrei Serdyukov, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), said during a briefing.

"The situation in the Caucasus region remains complicated. Of particular concern is the high level of contradictions, primarily driven by unresolved territorial issues and the West's desire to increase its influence in the Transcaucasus," Serdyukov remarked.

He added, "In the Central Asian region, risks and challenges related to international terrorism, extremism, illegal arms proliferation, and the trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances remain at a high level, posing a significant threat to stability in the member states of the organization."
