CSTO member countries issued a joint statement on Afghanistan

The CSTO member States express their concern about the tense military and political situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, especially in its northern provinces, and note the high intensity of hostilities and ongoing terrorist attacks throughout the country. Of particular concern is the increasing number of victims among the civilian population, the joint statement of the member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on the situation in the Islamic Republic, published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, reads.


"The CSTO member States emphasize that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic settlement of the situation in the IRA and welcome the efforts of the world community to achieve peace in Afghanistan, including within the framework of the Moscow format of consultations on Afghanistan and the inter-Afghan dialogue that started in February 2019, note the US-initiated negotiation process with the Taliban movement (outlawed in the Russian Federation), as well as the activities of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA)", the document reads, in particular.


The CSTO member States, as noted, will continue their joint activities in the Afghan direction in the format of the Organization.
