CSTO PA Council Urges Measures to Stabilize Syria and Address Middle East Crisis

09 December

The Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA) has called on the international community to take steps to stabilize the situation in Syria. This appeal was formalized in a statement adopted during a plenary session of the CSTO PA held in Moscow.

The statement highlights the Council's deep concern over the "unprecedented level of confrontation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Lebanon-Israel border region." It warns that the Middle East is "once again on the brink of a major regional war."

The Council emphasized that the ongoing bloodshed in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, which has persisted for over a year, necessitates "decisive and unified action" from the international community. It further notes that the unresolved nature of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict continues to destabilize the region, with the severe crisis in Gaza acting as a catalyst for heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.

The Council urges the international community to "halt the catastrophic trajectory of events and intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation." It stresses the importance of adhering to relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly resolutions and achieving a just and long-lasting resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This includes recognizing the right of Palestinians to establish an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Regarding Lebanon, the Council views the "faithful implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006)" as essential to stabilizing the situation. It also expresses full support for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), acknowledging its role in maintaining stability along the "Blue Line."
