The transfer of socially significant objects guarded by peacekeepers to the law enforcement bodies of Kazakhstan has started. This was announced to reporters in the Russian Ministry of Defense on Thursday.
"The military ministry says that in accordance with a plan drawn up by the command of the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces and the Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan, the transfer of socially significant objects guarded by peacekeepers to the law enforcement agencies of the country has begun.
It was also noticed there that the divisions have started to prepare equipment and materiel for loading into airplanes of the Russian Air Force.
Subunits of the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces who have fulfilled their tasks are preparing for their return to the permanent bases. "The return of CSTO peacekeepers to their home countries will be organized in cooperation with the Kazakh side," the Russian Ministry of Defense noted.
On January 2, protests were held in a number of cities in Kazakhstan, which a few days later escalated into mass riots and pogroms. These actions were accompanied by attacks on police, military and authorities in many cities of the country, especially in Almaty. Thousands of people were injured, the exact death toll is unknown. After an appeal by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, CSTO countries sent peacekeepers to the republic. According to the authorities, constitutional order has been restored in all regions.
