Damage from the explosion in the port of Beirut exceeded $15 billion

Damage from a powerful explosion that occurred on August 4 in the port of Beirut is estimated at more than $15 billion. This data was given by the President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, in a telephone conversation with King Philip VI of Spain.


"President Aoun noted that, according to preliminary estimates, the damage suffered by Lebanon exceeds $15 billion," the press service of the Lebanese President said in a statement published on his website on Wednesday. It is noted that the Spanish monarch expressed condolences and solidarity with the people of Lebanon, as well as readiness to provide the necessary assistance.


Insurance companies have previously estimated losses from the explosion in the port of Beirut at $3 billion. The Governor of Beirut, Maron Abboud, previously said that the reconstruction of the city would require from $12 to 15 billion. As reported on Wednesday, the internal security Department of Lebanon, as a result of the explosion, about 4 thousand buildings were partially or completely destroyed.
