The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey has exceeded 36,000 people. This was reported on Thursday by the government's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
"The earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaras province on Feb. 6 have so far killed 36,187 people. 108,068 people have been injured. More than 4.3 thousand aftershocks have been recorded in the region since the first earthquake," the agency informed.
AFAD added that by now the number of people temporarily resettled to other regions from the disaster area exceeds 216 thousand.
On Wednesday, General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction at AFAD said that the total duration of the two most powerful earthquakes (magnitude 7.7 and 7.6) was 2 minutes. The soil, according to the specialists of the department, shifted by 7.3 meters. The total amount of energy released, as indicated by Tatar, amounted to 30 quadrillion joules.
