Delimitation of Azerbaijan and Armenia border will be carried out with Russia's assistance

Moscow, Baku and Yerevan have agreed to move towards creating a bilateral commission for the delimitation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia with its subsequent demarcation, while Russia will assist them at the request of the parties, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a joint statement following talks in Sochi.


"We have agreed to take steps to improve stability and security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and to work toward the creation of a bilateral commission to delimit the state border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia with its subsequent demarcation with the advisory assistance of the Russian Federation at the request of the parties," the document said in a statement published Friday.


In addition, Russia will continue to provide all necessary assistance for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the formation of an atmosphere of trust and good neighborly relations between them.


"The Russian Federation will continue to provide all necessary assistance in the interests of normalizing relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, forming an atmosphere of trust between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples, as well as building good neighborly relations in the region," the document said.


In addition, the heads of states confirmed that they intend to continue to consistently and rigorously implement all the provisions of the two previous trilateral statements in order to ensure the stability, security and economic development of the South Caucasus. They also agreed to intensify joint efforts to solve the remaining tasks as soon as possible.


Projects for Karabakh's development


Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan also stressed that concrete projects should be launched as soon as possible to unlock Nagorno-Karabakh's economic potential.


The meeting discussed the implementation of the statement of November 9, 2020, on the full ceasefire and all military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as the statement of January 11, 2021, on the unblocking of all economic and transport links in the region. It is noted that the leaders "highly appreciated the activities of the trilateral working group, established in accordance with the statement of January 11, 2021, under the joint chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation on unblocking all economic and transport ties in the region." "They stressed the need to launch concrete projects as soon as possible in order to unlock the economic potential of the region," the report said.


Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan agreed to take steps to improve stability and security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
