On October 29, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov had a telephone conversation with Chairman of the Politburo of the HAMAS Palestinian Movement Ismail Haniyeh at the latter’s initiative.
The parties discussed the situation on Palestine territory, including the initiative to hold elections as a major step towards restoring Palestinian national unity.
The Russian side reaffirmed its consistent support for efforts to overcome the Palestinian domestic, as a prerequisite for the implementation of the lawful rights of the Palestinian people to create their own independent state within the 1967 borders.
