Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov met with the President of the Republic of Iraq Barham Salih.
The sides exchanged views on a variety of topical aspects of the Middle East situation. Special attention is paid to the tasks of the final defeat of ISIL (banned in the Russian Federation) and other terrorist groups.
In addition, they discussed the problems of the Syrian settlement, including the return of refugees, the restoration of the econimic infrastructure and the establishment of a political process aimed at ensuring the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Arab Republic.
A separate discussion was held on preparations for holding the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Iraqi Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation on April this year in Baghdad.
