Development of critical infrastructure in Africa to be on St. Petersburg summit agenda

04 April 2023

The development of industry and critical infrastructure on the African continent will be discussed at the upcoming second Russia-Africa summit in July. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told aif.ru in an interview published on the website of the Russian diplomatic mission on Tuesday.

"Work on its substantive content is ongoing in close cooperation with African friends," he said. - "The agenda of the summit meeting includes such issues as technology transfer, industrial development and critical infrastructure on the continent. We mean to discuss in detail Russia's participation in projects on digitalization of African states, the development of energy, agriculture and mining, food and energy security."

According to him, Russia considers the St. Petersburg summit as a systematic element of cooperation between Russia and Africa.

Lavrov noted that this is by no means a complete list of topics that will be in the focus of attention.

"I am convinced that the summit will strengthen the Russian-African strategic partnership, set the vector of development of the entire complex of relations with the African continent in the medium term, as well as make a significant contribution to the effective solution of regional and international problems," said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission.

As Roscongress previously reported, the second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum are scheduled for July 26-29 in St. Petersburg. The first event was held in Sochi in October 2019 under the motto "For Peace, Security and Development."
