Moscow hosted a meeting of the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov and the Special Representative of the People’s Republic of China Government on Syria Xiao Yan.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, diplomats discussed the settlement in Syria. In particular, «satisfaction with the effectiveness of tight foreign policy coordination on Syria within the framework of a strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing» was expressed.
The Russian and Chines sides reaffirmed their commitment to an early political settlement of the Syrian crisis on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 2254. At the same time, the need for the final elimination of the terrorist presence in Syria, international assistance to the process of the return of refugees and the socio-economic reconstruction of the Arab Republic was stressed.
