The Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held consultations with the French delegation headed by the French President's Special Envoy for Syria Francois Senemaud.

The main topic of discussion, as reported in the Russian Foreign Ministry, was the situation "on the ground" in Syria, primarily in the Northeast of the country. In addition, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis.

"The importance of convening the Constitutional Committee on October 30 in Geneva was noted, which allowed starting a direct dialogue between Syrians within the framework of the political process conducted and carried out by them with the support of the UN, in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254," the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

The diplomats also considered the issues of facilitating the voluntary and safe return of Syrians to their places of permanent residence and providing humanitarian assistance to the Arab Republic.
