The discussions regarding Russian grain exports to African nations involving Turkey and Qatar are ongoing. According to a diplomatic source in Ankara, negotiations are being conducted through the foreign ministry, and efforts are being made to address administrative hurdles that must be resolved before the deliveries can commence.
The source emphasized Turkey's determination to actualize these grain supplies.
Previously, Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Hakan Fidan held talks in Moscow on August 31 to discuss the grain deal and the details of implementing the initiative to provide 1 million tons of Russian grain to Turkey at a preferential rate, with financial support from Qatar. Subsequently, on September 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the matter in Sochi.
Both parties clarified that this project is distinct from the grain deal that was terminated on July 17. Instead, its purpose is to address potential food shortages in countries in need. Turkey expressed its support for the initiative and its readiness to execute it.
