During the month of Ramadan, the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia (DUM RF) collected and sent to the residents of Donbass more than 10 tons of humanitarian assistance, and Muslims in other regions of the country joined this action, said Deputy Chairman of DUM RF Mufti Rushan Abbyasov at a press conference on Thursday.
"We could not stay away from the humanitarian convoys, our humanitarian parcels. We formed more than 10 tons only in Moscow. Our regions also joined this action and sent trucks to Donbass with humanitarian aid. It included medicines, food, all necessities, including children's clothes. We carried out this great work during the month of Ramadan and, of course, we will continue, to support those people who find themselves in a difficult life situation," Abbyasov said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country.
The holy month for Muslims, Ramadan, began on April 1 at sunset. Ramadan will end on May 2 with the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
