Earthquake deaths in Turkey reach nearly 13000 people

The death toll from an earthquake in southeastern Turkey has risen to 12,873. This was reported Thursday by the Office of Emergency Situations.


"The death toll is 12,873. 62,937 of our citizens were injured," the statement read.


A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Monday in Kahramanmaras province in southeastern Turkey. The quakes, followed by about 300 aftershocks, were felt in 10 provinces of the country, as well as in neighboring states, including Syria. According to the Syrian ministry of health, the victims of natural disasters in the Arab Republic were more than 1.2 thousand people, the number of injured exceeded 2 thousand.
