Egypt has condemned the act of burning a copy of the Quran in Stockholm, the Egyptian Ministry of foreign affairs stated.
"Egypt condemns the extremist act of burning a copy of the holy Quran, which incites hatred between peoples," the country's foreign ministry said in a special statement issued Thursday. The ministry expressed deep concern over "repeated similar cases, as well as the escalation of Islamophobia and crimes related to attacks on Islam in some European countries."
The Egyptian foreign ministry reiterated Egypt's "total rejection of any activity negatively affecting the foundations and religious beliefs of Muslims." Cairo pointed to the responsibility of state authorities to prevent incitement and crimes based on religious hatred and advocated "the need to uphold the common human principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among peoples."
