Egypt is "very interested" in the Russian "Sputnik V" vaccine from the coronavirus, and is in contact with Russia on the issue of supplies after the completion of the necessary clinical trials,  Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic Sameh Shoukry said.

"We are very interested in the coronavirus vaccine developed in Russia. We appreciate the institutions that were able to create this vaccine and the readiness to provide it to friendly countries to protect humanity from the pandemic. We are in constant contact with medical institutions and authorities (in Russia) to resolve all issues regarding the supply of this vaccine after all clinical trials," Shoukry said on Russia 24.

He also noted that Egypt was interested in producing the vaccine on its territory. "We will take every opportunity. Egypt has a large pharmaceutical production capacity, and there are many people who may need vaccination. Therefore, we will use any opportunity of joint production with all aspects - scientific, economic and commercial," he said.

"We are in constant contact (with Russia) to determine the details, the interaction occurs at all levels," concluded Shoukry.

In August, the "Sputnik V" vaccine produced by the Gamaleya Research Center received a certificate of registration from the Russian Ministry of Health, becoming the first registered coronavirus vaccine in the world created on the basis of human adenoviral vectors.
