Egypt-Jordan Summit Scheduled for October 19 in Cairo

19 October 2023

An Egypt-Jordan summit, focused on seeking de-escalation in the Gaza Strip, is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Cairo, as announced by the office of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

"The Egyptian-Jordanian summit will take place today in Cairo," the statement was posted on the chancellery's Facebook page (banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).

The chancellery stated that the Egyptian president met with Jordan's King Abdullah II at the airport. The upcoming discussions will focus on "strategies for halting Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip."

Previously, the two Middle Eastern leaders had a meeting scheduled for October 18 in Amman, where a quadrilateral summit involving Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, and the US was planned. However, this event was canceled in the wake of the shelling of Al-Ahli Hospital in the Gaza Strip on the evening of October 17, which resulted in the tragic loss of 471 lives.
