Egypt is set to propose its own comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land. The announcement came via a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Egypt reaffirms its intention to present a comprehensive plan for Gaza's reconstruction, one that guarantees Palestinians can remain on their territory in accordance with their legitimate land rights,” the ministry stated in a special press release. No further details or timelines for the plan’s finalization were provided.
Previously, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told Al Jazeera that Arab nations are preparing an alternative to US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, focusing on rebuilding the enclave without displacing its population. Safadi argued that such an approach would “end the humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza.
On Tuesday, Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with President Trump at the White House, reaffirming Jordan’s opposition to relocating Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank. Meanwhile, Trump declared that the US is not planning to purchase Gaza but does intend to manage the territory.
During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, Trump stated that Washington was exploring the possibility of long-term control over Gaza to foster peace in the Middle East. He also supported relocating Palestinians from Gaza to other regional countries, which he suggested could “pay for it.”
The proposal from the US president has faced widespread rejection from Arab countries, Iran, and several Western states. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented that the Kremlin is aware of Trump’s suggestions but supports the positions of Egypt and Jordan, which oppose the initiative.
