Egypt is actively engaged in efforts to evacuate 36 newborns from Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip to medical facilities within the country, stated Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Health and Population for Egypt.
"We have 36 ambulances equipped with portable ventilators ready at the border to transport these infants, and bring them to our hospitals," he told CNN. According to the minister, Egypt is currently coordinating with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
"We must be prepared to receive them promptly. Time is crucial, and every minute, we understand, the chances of losing [the children] are increasing," Ghaffar emphasized. The Egyptian Red Crescent Society is prepared to receive the babies at the Rafah checkpoint, the minister specified.
Earlier reports from NBC, citing a doctor, indicated that approximately 40 newborns in Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip are in need of assistance. The doctor mentioned that the Israeli military is providing portable incubators, but the hospital lacks the necessary electricity. The doctor has advocated for evacuating the infants, claiming that the Israeli army has not authorized it.
